Since the distance and wattage of your array determine the size (guage) of cable it is too variable to be included with the systems. It has to be sized to your unique situation, to do this for our catalogue systems

You can choose any one of these ways to size the cable for your array:

1. We will give you the correct cable size once we have received your order  (you still have to know the length)

2. We can size the cable prior to your purchase Regular rates do apply, but you can also use this time to talk to our designer to answer any other questions and make sure you system is sized correctly.

3. Size the cable according to the instructions below.

Sizing cable is quite simple, making sure you get enough is usually the biggest concern.

When sizing, allow 3-5 feet extra at each end, your route may not be as straight as planned, connections in the boxes take extra, and changes can take place. This extra cable gives you the options you need for easy installation.

Use this link to Outback to use their chart on (presently) page 78 and 79. You will receive this manual with your system, but you will most likely want to have your wire ready when your system arrives.

Instructions:

Go to the charts (you can right click and open the manual in another window and then follow these instructions as well).  Scroll to section 29 , presently page 78 of the Outback manual.

These charts are written to American standards

• Our Canadian code allows slightly more voltage drop and we can run twice the distance from what the chart says - in cable sizing.

• The chart is in "feet" not metres.

Note the voltage of your system, and go to the correct chart, look up half the distance your cable will be for the total eventual Amps of your array. If you plan to add on in the future, this is the best time to make sure the cable is big enough. If you wish to optimize your solar collection you can use these chart values directly.
